History of Mahoba
District Mahoba was carved out form the erstwhile Hamirpur district on 11 February 1995 by separating the erstwhile Mahoba Teshil from it. It is also known as Mahoutsav-Nagar, means city of festival. Mahoba is known by two famous warriors Alha and Udal who fought against Prithviraj Chauhan and because of the courage of Alha, Udal the army whom they were representing won the battle. Before Mahoba was declared as District, it was an Outlying Court of Hamirpur Judgeship and three Outlying Courts, One of Additional District and Session’ s Judge and one Court of Civil Judge (Junior Division.) and a court of Judicial Magistrate were functioning. Vide G.O. No. 2010/7-Naya-2-104B/1994 Naya Anubhag -2 (Subordinate Court) Dated 19/09/1995 One Court of District and Sessions Judge , One Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, One of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Judicial Magistrate and Munsif Magistrate were created. Vide Memorandum No. 322/DR(S)/57 Dated April, 4 – 1997 Sri Raghu Nath Prasad H.J.S was appointed as first District & Sessions Judge of Mahoba Judgeship. Since then, till date, as many as 18 district Judges have worked in this Judgeship.
After its creation the District Mahoba had been divided into three Tehsils- (1) Tehsil Mahoba Sadar (2) Tehsil Charkhari (3) Tehsil Kulpahar. At the District Head Quarter Mahoba In addition to the Court of the District Judge i.e. the Principal Court of Original Jurisdiction as many as three Courts of Additional District Judges i.e. Additional District Judge/ Additional Session Judge Court No. 01 (Special Session Judge Dacoity Affected Area), Additional District Judge/ Additional Session Judge Court No. 02 (Special Court for SC-ST Act), Additional District Judge/ Additional Session Judge Court No. 03 of regular ADJ are established. There is one more Court of Additional District Judge/ Additional Session Judge that is the Court of Ex- Cadre. Besides the above mentioned courts, a Court of Chief Judicial Magistrates another Civil Judge (S.D.), Civil Judge (J.D.) and two Courts of JMs are established at the Head Quarter. There is one Outlying Court of Civil Judge (J.D.)/JM at Charkhari functional since 07/06/2002. Another Outlying Court of Civil Judge (J.D/JM) at Tehsil Kulpahar was inaugurated on 07/01/2011. As such as many as 12 Courts are established in Mahoba Judgeship.
